Jean-Michel Jarre’s New Year concert connected a real-time studio performance with a virtual Notre-Dame de Paris.
Welcome to the Other Side was a New Year’s Eve concert performed by Jean-Michel Jarre from a studio in Paris and staged inside a virtual reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris. The broadcast joined real-time performance, virtual direction and social VR.
One concert, several viewing conditions
The same event had to work for a VRChat audience, a conventional live stream and international broadcast partners. Direction inside the virtual cathedral was therefore designed both for embodied visitors and for the camera.
A symbolic public space
The virtual Notre-Dame allowed a global audience to gather around a monument that was physically inaccessible after the 2019 fire. The concert used the architecture as an emotional setting rather than a neutral digital stage.
Mass broadcast and immersive authorship
The production reached more than 75 million views across devices and media while retaining the visual logic of a spatial performance. Georgy Molodtsov worked as XR Co-Director and directed the 360° video versions within the VRROOM production.
