Jean-Michel Jarre performed live inside Oxyville, a virtual city built from the visual language of early electronic instruments.
OXYMORE joined a live Jean-Michel Jarre performance, a cinematic capture system and a persistent social-VR city. The music and visual world were developed together, turning each movement of the album into a district of Oxyville.
Designing Oxyville
The city was inspired by early electronic instruments and the legacy of musique concrète pioneer Pierre Henry. Art director Pavel Pavlyukov and the 3D team built a stylised world with eleven districts corresponding to the concert’s eleven movements.
Directing inside a social world
Automated cameras were integrated into the VRChat environment so each concert could also be shot as a film. The audience became part of the mise-en-scène while the performance moved from district to district.
Quest-compatible at city scale
Oxyville was designed to run on Meta Quest, PCVR and desktop. The Quest world remained approximately 30 MB by relying on simple geometry, restrained textures and an art direction built around those limitations.
A project with a long public life
The experience moved from the Hyper Weekend preview to the album launch, international festivals, awards and public access in VRChat. It became the central project in Georgy Molodtsov’s collaboration with Jean-Michel Jarre and VRROOM.
